Our Home for a While

On a lighter note today, I thought I would invite you inside the setting of our every day life. The first photo is our building. Our apartment is on the second floor. Unlike our neighbors, our shades are always open. Perhaps we’ll change that habit once the temps rise. To give our apartment a homey feel, the entrance is decorated with a well-used yoga mat and a row of shoes. The main living area features a purple sofa, a large TV screen, and about 200 pounds of books in many neat piles. We love the open space and large windows!

Not only is our apartment fully furnished, it also came with a pair of stray cats. I don’t know if this is true of all Israeli stray cats, but our cats have special superpowers. The second morning we were here, we awoke to a mystery – the door was slightly ajar, David’s earbuds were unfurled on the sofa, and there were fresh bite marks in his plastic earbud charger. The mystery was solved not much later when I witnessed the door handle jiggling up and down, followed by a cat nonchalantly walking through the open door. We now keep our door locked at all times.

Since Haifa is basically on a mountain – either the foothills of Mt. Carmel or Mt. Carmel itself, we’re not sure yet – we have opted to go down the mountain to the flatter terrain of the oceanside for most of our runs (David) and jogs (Gail). It is almost always windy there.

    1. Yes, that is a stony stretch of the beach. It probably has shells. The area Papa was talking about is farther down the path towards the buildings.

  1. What a beautiful location, Gail! I’d love all those windows too. Glad to see you have lots of shelf space for those 200 lbs of books! 😊 Thanks for giving us a glimpse into this grand adventure.

  2. Thank you for sharing, Gail! The weather looks great even if windy (especially compared to the snow and grey skies in AA today!)

  3. Your writing gives us a sense of being there, with those details to add interest and authenticity. Can anyone tell that Gail teaches writing?

  4. So impressed with those smart kitties! Books & a yoga mat do make your place look peaceful.
